IMB presents its 27th:
Masterclass and Final Concert for Choral and Orchestral Conductors
Prof. Colin Metters (Royal Academy of Music, London)
Berlin Sinfonietta
Soloists TBA
Mozart Requiem in D minor
June 2017
After our three successful masterclasses, we are happy to have the opportunity to cooperate again, for the fifth time with one of the leading and most distinguished conducting pedagogues of our time, Prof. Colin Metters. He is the Professor emeritus of Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in London where he founded the Conductors’ Course in 1983. Colin has an international reputation as a leading pedagogue, and has given masterclasses in Germany, Poland, Finland, Australia, Venezuela, Vietnam, China and the USA. His wide experience affords him an enviable reputation as professional conductor, orchestral trainer and conducting instructor.
He has worked with leading symphony orchestras in the UK, and guest-conducted extensively abroad. In 1997 he was appointed Music Adviser and Principal Guest Conductor to the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, directing a five-year program of development. In 1999, in recognition of his work, he was awarded the Vietnamese equivalent of the Order of Merit, the first to be made to a British citizen.
We are happy to present again a masterclass with orchestra, choir and soloists. This masterclass will give opportunity to work on all aspects of conducting, working with voices and orchestra rehearsal technique. Prof. Metters rarely leads choral masterclasses, and we are welcoming you to take advantage of this great opportunity to study and perform in Berlin.
Besides intensive active conducting sessions with a professional orchestra, each one of the participants will have the chance to work with Prof. Metters on critical aspects of conducting including studying the score, musical analysis, conducting technique and string technique. We will have four orchestra rehearsals (4 hours long each) with the professional and dedicated musicians of the Berlin Sinfonietta. All the participants will have the chance to perform in the final, public concert.
This masterclass is limited to a maximum of 15 active participants*.

This masterclass will take place in the main hall in the building of the Jewish Community in Berlin, in the Miete district. This area considered to be “the heart” of the city, and close to all the attractions that the city has to offer. The modern and intimate concert hall is located next to the big and famous Synagogue in Oranienburgerstrasse.
You are more than welcome to apply here.
Repertoire:
Requiem in D minor KV 626
F. Schubert
Mass No.2 in G major D. 167
The participants are expected to prepare all the repertoire pieces.
* The duration and the number of the sessions with the orchestra and the choir that each participant entitled for has increased. We would like to share that this masterclass requires the bringing together of much bigger musical and logistical forces than our usual masterclasses, like a choir, soloists and more. Considering the growing interest in this masterclass, we have decided that we will open this masterclass for more active participants together with adding substantial amount of active conducting sessions. (As in all of our choral masterclasses.) Nevertheless, the addition of more active participants will not cause any reduction of the active conducting sessions that each participant entitled for. On the contrary! In this masterclass each one of the participants will enjoy in total, longer time with the orchestra, the choir and individually with Maestro Bressan in comparison to our usual masterclasses.
