Sergej Bolkhovets – Violin
Sergej Bolkhovets has established himself as one of Sweden’s most accomplished violinists of his generation. He graduated from a.o. the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, having studied with Ulf Wallin, Zakhar Bron, Tabea Zimmermann and Joakim Svenheden. He has also attended masterclasses with renowned violinists and musicians, among others Antje Weithaas, Herman Krebbers, György Pauk, Ana Chumachenko, Thomas Brandis, Pinchas Zukerman, Rachel Podger, Günter Ludwig, Andras Schiff, Pierre Amoyal and Krysztof Wegrzyn.
As a soloist, Sergej has on several occasions performed on Swedish Television and holds several prizes from prestigious Swedish and international competitions. He has performed violin concertos by J. Adams, Bach, Beethoven, Bottesini, Bruch, Brahms, Dvorak, Mendelssohn, Khachaturian, Nielsen, Prokofiev, Schostakovich, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi (4 Seasons) and Vaughan-Williams with various orchestras, such as Stockholm Royal Philharmonic and Bielefelder Philharmoniker, in Sweden, Germany, Poland, Portugal and USA. He has also performed at several festivals, a.o. at the Ottobeuren Festspiele in Germany, and has also received numerous scholarship awards from a.o. Swedish Royal Academy of Music.
Furthermore, Sergej has a rich experience in orchestral playing. Since the age of 15 he has played in some of the world’s most prestigious youth orchestras like Orkester Norden, European Union Youth Orchestra, UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra, and Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester with conductors such as Levine, Mehta, Welser-Möst, Temirkanov, Sawallisch, Paavo Järvi, Kamu, Nagano and Abbado.
Already during his studies in Berlin he started to play as a guest in the Berlin Philharmonic and Berlin Radio Orchestra (RSB) In 2006 and 2007 Sergej was additionally invited to perform with members of the Berlin Philharmonic in chamber orchestra concerts in Spain and Italy. Sergej has also plays a concertmaster in several orchestras, including 1st concertmaster in the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in Glasgow, Norrland’s Opera in Umeå, Orquestra do Algarve in Portugal, Jönköping Sinfonietta, Berliner Operngruppe, as well as assistant concertmaster in the Frankfurt Opera, Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Stockholm, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Gävle Symphony Orchestra and Norrköping Symphony Orchestra. Since 2012 he is a member of the Camerata Nordica in Sweden and also as 1. concertmaster in Neues Kammerorchester Potsdam in Germany.
As a pedagogue, Sergej has more than thirteen years of broad teaching experience. He has been teaching, during his studies in Berlin, at the Yamaha Musikschule and since 2008 he holds a teaching position at the Nordic Music High School in Stockholm. Since 2011 he also teaches at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. In 2012 he gave two Masterclasses at the Boston Conservatory, as well as at the “Beyond Music” chamber music festival in Benasque, Spain. Several of the students that he has been coaching have been accepted to renowned music academies in Berlin Hanns Eilser and Universität der Künste, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Leipzig, Weimar, Münster, Luzern and Stockholm. One violinist has won an audition for an orchestra job in Norrlandsoperan.
