Eroica – Shambadal

IMB Proudly Presents:

International Masterclass for Orchestral Conductors
with Maestro Lior Shambadal and the Berlin Sinfonietta

EROICA – SHAMBADAL

Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven in E♭ Major
Berlin, 14th – 19th September 2014

We are happy to collaborate again with the Chief Conductor of the Berliner Symphoniker, Maestro Lior Shambadal. Maestro Shambadal, born in 1950, is a very sought after conductor with a long international career as an opera and concerts conductor. As a teacher he gives several masterclasses for conductors each year. In this masterclass we will have the opportunity to work closely with Maestro Shambadal and the Berlin Sinfonietta on three symphonies by Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven, all in the key of E♭ Major. This will be an interesting opportunity to get close, and to investigate the symbolism and the meaning of this particular key for those composers in their period of activity through the Classical Era. Conductors in all levels and ages are welcome to apply.

Besides intensive active conducting sessions with a professional orchestra, each one of the participants will have the chance to work with Mr. Shambadal on critical aspects of conducting including studying the score, musical analysis, conducting technique and string technique. We will have four orchestra rehearsals (4 hours long each) with the professional musicians of the Berlin Sinfonietta.  All the participants will have the chance to perform in the final, public concert.

In this masterclass we will focus exclusively on symphonies by Ludwig van Beethoven.  It will be a unique chance to spend a week with a professional orchestra and Maestro Shambadal, and to go into the depths of this

These pieces are a great challenge in many aspects, even for experienced conductors and orchestras. Working in details with Maestro Shambadal on the musical and technical issues during the orchestra rehearsals, and the preparations for the final concert, will contribute a lot for the conducting and rehearsing skills of the participants of this masterclass.symphonic giant.
The course will be taught primarily in English, and secondarily in German. If you don’t speak these languages, and you would like to participate in the masterclass, we will make our best effort to provide a translator. Please mention that in your application. All the sessions with the orchestra will be video recorded, and each participant will receive his or her videos on a 8 GB USB stick, which he or she may keep and take home with them.

Participants are welcome to bring their own recording device.

You are more than welcome to apply here.
